May 2022 will be action-packed for the Indian automotive industry. There will be several new car launches in different segments. Here are the key details of the top 5 models, which are expected to hit the market next month.

Volkswagen Virtus

Volkswagen’s new mid-size sedan – Virtus – debuted in India in early March 2022. Bookings for the vehicle have already started across the country. The model range will be available in two trim levels – Dynamic Line and Performance Line – powered by 1.0L TSI and 1.5L TSI turbocharged petrol engines. Based on the MQB-A0 IN platform, the sedan is 4561mm long, 1752mm wide and 507mm high and has a long wheelbase of 2651mm. Its trunk volume is 521 litres. the Volkswagen Virtus GT the variant will have sporty details including red stitching and aluminum pedals and red accents on the dashboard.

Jeep Meridian

Jeep India is set to launch its premium 6/7-seater Meridian SUV in May. In fact, some dealerships have started accepting reservations for the model at an initial amount of Rs 50,000. The design and styling of the SUV resembles that of the Commander sold overseas. Compared to the compass, the Jeep Meridian is 364mm longer and has a 158mm long wheelbase. The SUV is likely to come with advanced features such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, 7 airbags, braking system emergency and ADAS

Honda City hybrid

Honda Cars India to unveil City Hybrid sedan on 14and April, followed by its launch in May 2022. The sedan features Honda’s i-MMD hybrid technology which includes two electric motors and an ICE (Internal Combustion Engine). It has a naturally aspirated 1.5 L 4-cylinder (98 hp / 127 Nm) Atkinson cycle gasoline engine under the hood. One of the electric motors runs an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), and the other delivers 109 hp to the front wheel through a single fixed gear ratio. the Honda City hybrid will offer three driving modes – running on electric motors only, running on a gasoline engine and running on a combination of the two.

Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo

Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo Spied Red

Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo Edition is ready for market launch. However, its launch date has yet to be announced. The model receives a sporty black treatment on the exterior, including black badges and end caps instead of chrome, alloy wheels inspired by the previous generation Octavia RS 245 and Monte Carlo badging on the front fenders. Under the hood, the Kushaq Monte Carlo will use the same 115hp, 1.0L and 150hp, 1.5L gasoline engines with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox. While a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission is reserved for the 1.0L TSI, a 7-speed DSG comes with 1.5L TSI only.

Kia EV6 GT

Kia EV6 Electric Crossover India

The South Korean automaker is set to make a foray into India’s electric vehicle (EV) space with the Kia EV6 GT. The model is expected to be unveiled in May, followed by its market launch. The electric crossover is offered with several configurations in global markets, including RWD with a single 170 hp motor and AWD with a 235 hp twin-motor configuration. The top-of-the-line version comes with a larger 77.4 kWh battery that can be used with a 229 hp single-motor RWD configuration or a 325 hp dual-motor AWD configuration. The EV6 GT variant is available with a twin-motor AWD layout which is good enough for 585 hp and 740 Nm. Powertrain details of the India-spec Kia EV6 are still under wraps.
