Whether you are a renter or a homeowner, you are likely spending a significant portion of your income on housing costs. Many remote workers and self-employed people get creative about their living situation. Some move to areas with lower cost of living to take advantage of lower housing costs, while others travel full time while working remotely.
One company provides free housing for three people in up to four cities for one year. This could be a great opportunity for three lucky winners to see what it’s like to live in different cities across the United States while saving money on housing costs.
Landing is a company that offers flexible rental solutions. Members pay $ 199 per year and can rent furnished properties in many areas of the United States. They don’t have to sign a long-term lease or pay a security deposit. Instead, tenants can give 30 days notice and rent another apartment within the Landing network, even if it is in a different city. More than 35,000 furnished rentals are available in more than 200 cities across the country.
This is a one-stop solution for tenants who value flexibility and don’t want to commit to annual leases.

Here’s how to participate to earn free and flexible rent for one year
Do you want to try your luck and win rent-free accommodation? Landing is running the contest from October 19 to November 15. Interested candidates can complete a request and post a 60-second video on social media explaining what 12 months of flexible life would look like for them. They should also include the hashtag #LandingLife.
Landing team members and a panel of journalists covering travel and flexible living will select the winners. Winners will be announced on December 1 and they will begin their journey with Landing in 2022. All winners will share highlights of their experiences on social media throughout the year.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, be U.S. citizens, and be able to travel freely within the United States. Winners can bring one guest and one pet and will be able to live in up to four cities during the 12 months.
Landing will cover one year of rent-free accommodation for three winners, i.e. rental fees, utilities, WiFi, parking fees, and pet fees. All of these fees can add up quickly no matter where in the country you live in, so this will give winners a fantastic way to save money on living expenses.
If you want to participate in this unique competition, you can do so until November 15th.
Tips to make the cost of living more manageable
If you are not comfortable with the cost of your living expenses, there are some changes you can make.
Are you paying too much for your rent or mortgage? Experts suggest that your housing expenses should not exceed 30% of your take-home pay (the amount you earn at home). If you pay more than that for housing and utilities costs, it may be difficult for you to save extra money or pay extra expenses when they arise. Plus, living from paycheck to paycheck can be stressful.
Here are some tips to help you better manage the cost of living:
- Get a side push. If you have the time and the energy, finding a part-time job can help you increase your income. The more income you have, the easier it will be to pay your bills more comfortably. You don’t know what type of job to choose? Here are seven side activities you can do from home.
- Move to an area where the cost of living is lower. Some parts of the country are expensive, while others are much more affordable. Moving to a destination with a lower cost of living can help lower your housing costs. If you’re looking for inspiration, these are America’s most affordable cities.
- Consider renting out part of your house. If you can, renting an extra room in your home can lower your living costs. For this to work well, it is best to live in a desirable place and enjoy life with others.
- Eliminate the extra expense and set a budget. A lot of people don’t budget because they assume they’re not wasting money. Once you have carefully considered your spending habits, you may find that there are some costs that you can reduce. By following a budget, you can ensure that you are using your money wisely. This beginner’s guide to budgeting is a great place to start.
If you’re changing your life situation to make your living expenses more affordable, it’s a good idea to set aside the extra money you save each month. Having an emergency fund can help you get out of stressful financial situations. Don’t be afraid to start because you think you don’t have enough extra cash. Even a small emergency fund can help.
If you don’t have emergency funds yet, we recommend opening a separate savings account to keep your regular pocket money separate. In addition, you can earn interest on these funds. For additional tips on how to better manage your money, check out these personal finance resources.
