The Honda Montesa Cota line of trials bikes is back, with updates to the base model this year. Let’s look at the new 2022 Honda Montesa Cota 4RT260R (replacing the 4RT260) and the returning 4RT301RR racing replica.

  1. The 2022 Honda Montesa Cota 4RT260R gets Showa suspension. Gone is the Tech fork and R16V shock. Showa now handles suspension functions for the 4RT260R and 4RT301RR.
  1. The larger capacity aluminum silencer from the 4RT301RR Race Replica is now used on the 4RT260R. According to Honda, that means more power everywhere for the fuel-injected SOHC 259cc four-stroke used in the 4RT260R.

  1. Several improvements differentiate the 4RT260R and the 4RT301RR Race Replica. You will pay an additional $2600 to upgrade to the racing replica.
  1. The most significant difference is the increased displacement. The 4RT301RR’s 298cc engine has a 3.5mm wider bore and 3.0mm longer stroke than the 4RT260R’s mill.
  1. Premium Michelin Trial Competition X11 rubber is used on the 4RT301RR. The 4RT260R gets the low-end, but still great, Dunlop D803GP tires. Either way, the rear tire is a tubeless radial, while the front is a diagonal-ply and uses a tube.

  1. The Race Replica is 1.5 degrees more than the 4RT260R. This gives the chassis more stability when attacking the biggest obstacles.
  1. There are other exclusive goodies on the 2022 Honda Montesa Cota 4RT301RR. Take a look at the S3 Hard Rock foot pegs, carbon fiber guard and Repsol Honda Trial Team livery. While not the same bike Toni Bou has ridden in 30 consecutive World Trials Championships, the 4RT301RR is as close as it gets.
  2. The pair will arrive in May at Honda dealerships.
