The Wellness Business Opportunity was overlooked by Four Dragons due to larger competitors, disbelief in market size and profitability. Apparently at the end of her journey in Dragons’ Den, Ms. Davis started crying in the den, but luckily she was given a lifeline in the form of Sara Davies.

The mom of two created Nylah’s Naturals, wanting her daughter to know her natural hair is beautiful without needing to “fit into a linear beauty ideal.”

But her daughter’s eczema presented some challenges when it came to finding products that matched both her hair texture, her skin sensitivity, and conformed to her daughter’s natural curls instead of modifying them. .

“When I couldn’t find it, I was like, ‘Hm, there’s a market here,’” Ms. Davis commented in her speech.

By creating an award-winning product without any capital, while working part-time and raising her two young children, Ms. Davis received some kudos from the Dragons for her dedication and motivation.

Asking £ 50,000 for a 20% stake in Nylah’s Naturals, Mr Davis made a brilliant pitch and appeared to be successful in the den.

However, due to his limited time and finances to devote to the business, the profit margins were not what the Dragons expected.

Deaborah Meaden also pointed out some flaws in the branding of the products, including, “Nowhere on this is it about textured hair? “.

Ms Davis also announced that she had a competitor in the UK market who had recently secured an investment and which in turn was growing faster and bigger than her.

“With this investment and working capital, I can also dominate the market,” Ms. Davis continued, noting the dissatisfaction on the faces of the Dragon.

After a few grilling questions, Ms Davis started to look more shaky and nervous than when she first entered, sensing the Dragons’ growing contempt.

Touker Suleyman commented: “You sound very knowledgeable, but at the end of the day it’s the numbers that speak. In a way, you are in the den a year too early.

After pointing out that Ms Davis should have given more time for the numbers to speak about her business as much as her inspiring story did, Mr Suleyman, Tej Lalvani and Peter Jones all left the deal quickly.

Ms Meaden added that she was also not convinced it was the right time to invest in this opportunity, stating: “I really wish you all the best because you did a great job and present yourself very well. . ” before declaring himself out of the case too.

The disappointment was tangible as the hopeful entrepreneur was visibly bowled over by the series of refusals.

With only one Dragon remaining, all seemed lost for Ms. Davis and her innovative beauty brand.

“You don’t have a business worth a quarter of a million,” said Sara Davies, speaking for the first time in this pitch.

“But I think with me on board you could have a worthwhile business. I would really like to support another “mumpreneur”.

Ms Davies noted that this was a market she was completely unfamiliar with, but rather than just investing in the company, she was looking to invest in its brilliant founder.

Offering £ 50,000 for 40% of the business, but this would also be reduced to 30% if the investment was paid back within 18 months.

Ms Davis had tears streaming down her face as she accepted the deal, telling Ms Davies, “I’m going to make you proud.”
