RICHMOND, Virginia – The Atlantic 10 conference announced the pairings for the 2022-23 men’s basketball season on Monday. The defending A-10 champion Richmond Spiders will play an 18-game conference schedule that includes home and away series against four opponents this coming season: George Mason, George Washington, St. Bonaventure and VCU.

The Spiders will also host Duquesne, Fordham, Loyola Chicago, Rhode Island and Saint Louis at Robins Center while playing road games in Davidson, Dayton, La Salle, Massachusetts and Saint Joseph’s in conference.

With the addition of Loyola Chicago to the conference, Richmond’s four home and away series are one less than the Spiders played last season. UR’s two regular season games against intra-city rival VCU include the Richmond Area Honda Dealers Capital City Classic. VCU beat Richmond twice in the regular season last year, but the Spiders knocked VCU out of the Atlantic 10 Championship with a 75-64 win in the A-10 quarterfinals.

2022-23 will be the eighth time in the past nine seasons Richmond has played a home-and-away streak against George Mason, a streak interrupted only by the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season. UR split its two games against Mason last season, beating the Patriots 62-59 at Robins Center and losing 87-84 in overtime at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Va.

Richmond will play a home-and-away series against St. Bonaventure for the second straight year after not meeting the Bonnies in a two-game regular-season series since 2014-15 before last season. The teams have split their two encounters in 2021-22, with the home side winning every game.

The Spiders will resume their traditional home-and-away streak with George Washington for the first time since 2019-20. UR played a home-and-away series against GW for six consecutive seasons from 2015-2020. Last year, Richmond beat GW on the road, winning 84-71 at the Smith Center.

Dates and times for all 2022-23 Richmond Spiders games will be announced at a later date.

Richmond is returning 12 players from last year’s A-10 Championship team, which went on to defeat Big Ten champion Iowa in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. This includes seniors Tyler Burton, the Spiders’ leading scorer and rebounder and an All-Conference selection last season. 2022-23 will be Chris Mooneyat 18 years olde year at Richmond, making him the third-longest starting coach in Atlantic 10 history.
